CFA franc in Africa

Although I've never travelled to West and Central Africa, I just came to know there are two common currencies in West and Central, called CFA Franc....
The Wikipedia says Both CFA Francs currently have a "fixed" exchange rate to the euro: 100 CFA francs = 1 former French (nouveau) franc = 0.152449 euro; or 1 euro = 655.957 CFA francs.

Fixed exchagne rate?? Ummm, sounds very tricky. Looking forward to my future mission to these countries and will see the reality on the ground!
P.S. I should have kept my French franc (from my first trip to France in 1997...)
